Prescription Propecia (value) Drug Information

Finasteride Tablets Dosage Take one tablet of Finasteride 1 mg orally once a day, or as directed by your doctor. This medicine may be taken with or without meals. For maximum benefit, take Finasteride pills regularly once a day. Finasteride usually must be taken regularly for 3 months for the benefits to be noticeable. Once treatment is discontinued within this duration, any gain in hair quantity will be lost within 12 months. Before taking Finasteride, tell your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this medication, or to a similar medicine called dutasteride (Avodart). Finasteride should never be taken by a woman or a child. Finasteride can be absorbed through the skin, and women or children should not be permitted to handle Finasteride tablets. This medication can cause birth defects if a woman is exposed to it during pregnancy. Finasteride tablets should not be handled by a woman who is pregnant or who may become pregnant. If a woman accidentally comes into contact with this medication from a broken or crushed tablet, wash the area with soap and water right away. Call your doctor at once if you notice any breast lumps, pain, nipple discharge, or other breast changes. These may be signs of male breast cancer USE OF THIS medicine IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you are female. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS: A SIDE EFFECT that may occur while taking this medicine is a change in sexual function. If it continues or is bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience the following side effects or symptoms of toxicity: skin rash or swelling of lips. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with Others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
